About this event

Deep levels of involvement indicates brain growth (ie progress).  In the early years, this is most often seen during child-initiated play, where children have access to a truly enabling environment and are supported by skilful staff.  In true child-initiated play, the children select where, what and how to play and this cannot, therefore, be pre-planned as staff do not know what a child will choose to do. The challenge is to provide and facilitate the highest quality of free-flow play, whilst feeling confident that progress will be maximised. This course will give practitioners this confidence. 

Delegates will:

·       Learn to use levels of involvement to assess their provision;

·       Understand how to develop their environment with simple ideas to support independent learning;

·       Recognise what ‘teaching’ looks like in the early years and feel confident  to deliver this;

·       Feel confident to introduce ‘planning in the moment’ and be sure that this will maximise progress;

·       Have skills and strategies to develop story scribing in their settings.

This course is split into 2 days of training. Please see separate training sheet for further details of each day. Day 2 now rescheduled for Mon 17 Sept.

Total cost is £200 per delegate for this 2 day training.

Trainer(s): Anna Ephgrave

Anna Ephgrave has been teaching for 27 years.  Most recently she has been an assistant head teacher, but has also worked as an advanced skills teacher.  In her last four Ofsted inspections, the early years has been graded as outstanding (in two different schools), without any forward planning, topics or focus activities.  She is passionate about the need for children to feel confident and secure in order to learn.  Experience has taught her that this is best achieved through child-initiated play, in an enabling environment, supported by skilful staff.  Anna is author of “The Reception Year in Action” and “The Nursery Year in Action”.  She works as an independent consultant both in the UK and abroad.
