Leading a team is a tough job. You need to manage performance, but take people with you. You must set high standards and be in control, but also encourage and develop staff. Using a coaching approach expands thinking, deepens understanding and develops self-efficacy. It’s a challenging and supportive partnership which benefits both the leader and the setting by improving performance and well-being.
This course will assist you to develop your leadership and management skills and enhance your supervision techniques. The session will be a mix of input and practical activities enabling you to practice essential skills, reflect on what you do and develop your practice as a leader or manager.
Delegates will have opportunities to:
• Consider how to build a team including managing change, motivation and delegation;
• Explore how to foster a growth mindset in their team;
• Use a coaching approach to ensure the effectiveness of supervision;
• Practice skills such as listening, questioning and giving feedback;
• Consider the use of self-evaluation and review to improve practice.
Trainer(s): Tamsin Grimmer
Tamsin Grimmer is the early years director for Linden Learning and a part time lecturer at Bath Spa University. As an experienced consultant and trainer, Tamsin is passionate about young children’s learning and development and is fascinated by how very young children think. She believes that all children deserve equally passionate practitioners who are inspiring, dynamic and reflective. Tamsin is particularly interested in play, active learning, promoting positive behaviour and using a coaching approach to develop leadership within the early years. She is also an author of several successful early years books.
